Timothy D. Scrantom

Tim Scrantom is an American lawyer and an English barrister-at-law (Gray's Inn) (currently non-practicing). As senior partner of Ten State International Law (www.tsilaw.com), a significant portion of Tim's practice currently centres on disputes, audits and investigations in international and offshore finance, particularly reverse-engineering, and preventing the use of international and offshore financial centres and offshore structures in complex fraud and terrorism cases. He also acts as a strategic consultant on legal issues in complex multi-jurisdiction litigation and business migrations. Much of this litigation work is conducted through the Gerson International Law Group, in which Tim is also a partner. For the past five years, Tim has focused his practice in the area of international compliance. He is a leading advocate for rational transparency in international and offshore finance around the world.
Tim received a juris doctor (cum laude) from the University of Georgia and an LL.M. in International Business Law from the London School of Economics. He has studied at various other foreign universities, including The Hague Academy of International Law (Netherlands) and the Free University (Brussels), In the United States, he is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Georgia and South Carolina. Tim is also a barrister before the courts of Eastern Caribbean States (Antigua and Barbuda, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines), and is allowed to appear in courts in proximate countries (Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad, Guyana and Belize).
Tim's career has been a blend of active private law practice, academics and innovation in the field of international law. He has published over forty articles and papers in the areas of international tax, finance, and fiscal planning, and has been a featured speaker at or chairman of scores of conferences of professionals and government leaders in over a dozen countries. He has appeared in international television and radio broadcasts (including ABC, CNN, BBC) and is frequently quoted or featured in international publications (Reuters; Associated Press; The New York Times; Forbes; Fortune) in connection with international financial law matters and international disputes. He has taught at the government-sponsored Institute for International Studies and Training (Fujinomiya, Japan) and, over the past ten years, has been a professor of International Business Law and International Taxation at the University Of South Carolina School Of Law. He is also the founder and Executive Director of the annual Institute for Transnational Dispute Resolution at Gray's Inn, London.
Over his twenty-odd year career in law, which began in London in 1983 with Clifford-Turner (now Clifford Chance), Tim has concentrated his practice in international and offshore tax and finance law and international strategic planning. His clients include governments, multinational corporations and international entrepreneurs, although most of his professional engagements are directly with other lawyers, accountants and financial planners.
