Michael Nelson

Michael Nelson is the owner of Law Office of Michael B. Nelson, Inc., a California Professional Service Corporation, with its main office in San Ramon, California and a Foreign Representation Office in People's Republic of China.  The Firm’s practice emphasis is on international estate planning, offshore business/tax transactions, international accounting issues, dispute resolution, and representation before the U.S. Treasury, U.S. Tax Court, Internal Revenue Service on tax and compliance matters; both criminal and civil matters.

 

Mr. Nelson is a founding member and is on the Executive Committee of the AOA.  Mr. Nelson is licensed as a California Attorney; admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, Supreme Court of California, United States Court of Appeals, and United States District Court.  Currently, he is a PhD. Candidate University of London and holds his Juris Doctor Degree from McGeorge School of Law, Sacramento, California.  He also received the McGeorge School of Law and Facility of Law Edinburgh University, Certificate in International Business Transactions; McGeorge School of Law in coordination with the Inns of Court of London and the School of Law of the Inns of Court, Certificate in Comparative Advocacy; Masters in Taxation from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, California; and a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from the University of Nebraska.

 

Mr. Nelson has several academic writings, lectures and memberships which include: "An Analysis of Foreign Investment in the People's Republic of China in the Aftermath of the Sino-U.S. Tax Agreement", The Transnational Lawyer, Fall 1988; "Standards of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for Financial Statement Reporting Purposes", lecture given before the Chinese International & Economic Committee, People's Republic of China, October 1991, "Joint Ventures between China and the United States", lecture given before the Chinese International Trust and Investment Committee, People's Republic of China, February 1992, "U.S. International Taxation on Profits Derived from China", paper given to the Law Firm of  C & C, the largest Chinese law firm in China, September 1993, "International Intellectual Property Protection, Special Emphasis in the People's Republic of China", China International Trade Forum, September 1994. AOA Hong Kong Conference September 21-23, 2008, “Pre-Immigration Planning to the United States, specifically Foreign Trust Interests”.

 

He is an Adjunct Professor at People's University in Beijing, People's Republic of China lecturing in International Business and Taxation before the Advanced Law Graduates and the Judicial Judges of the highest Provincial Courts of China, 1994 and 1995; Chairman of the San Francisco U.S.- China Exchange Council and Director of the U.S. - Sino Trade Development Council from 1996 to 2000, A Critical Analysis and Strategies for U.S. Overseas Businesses Participating as a Foreign Joint Venture Partner, The Transnational Lawyer, Volume 9, Number 1, Spring 1996, Asset Protection through the Utilization of Offshore Tax and Legal Structures in View of the Recent U.S. and European legislation, paper presented in 1998 to the American Bar Association, Chairperson of the American Bar Association’s Sub-Committee on International Asset Protection and Foreign Trusts for the calendar year 1998, written Submission for Public Hearing Scheduled November 8, 2000 addressing Proposed Regulations of Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Treasury on Section 1.679-2(a)(4) on Foreign Trusts and U.S. Beneficiaries, Co-Chairperson of the State of California “2001 Annual Meeting of the California Tax Bars” presenting oral and written materials on “Tax Planning and Traps for Non-Residents Temporarily in the U.S.”, dated November 9, 2001 in San Francisco, California, President and Founder of the “National Foundation on Wealth and Asset Protection”, an international based Foundation dedicated to the advancement of legislation and laws related to wealth preservation and protection of world-wide assets, Commission Member of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Congressional Business Committee for the year 2002 and 2003, on strategies to protect small business and business owners, Adjunct Professor at John F.
