Gibraltar

Gibraltar is a self-governing British overseas territory at the southernmost tip of the Iberian Peninsula and Europe, Spain to the north and west, and Morocco to the south. The judicial system of Gibraltar is based on the common law legal system. The official language is English.

Gibraltar has an extensive service-based economy, dominated by tourism and offshore financial services, principally banking, insurance and shipping-related services. It is a popular stop for cruise ships and a popular shopping destination. All goods and services are VAT free. Besides, a number of British and international banks have operations based in Gibraltar. In 1967, Gibraltar enacted the Companies (Taxation and Concessions) Ordinance, which provided special tax treatment for international business. In 1997, the Department of Trade and Industry established its Gibraltar Finance Centre Division to facilitate the development of the financial sector.
